The Senior Metallurgy Specialist will provide deliverables from Welding engineering and running of development projects/tasks, provide metallurgical consultative service to operating groups (Fabrication / Marine) and Liaise with Operations Manager (Fabrication / Marine), Discipline Managers, PMT, Customers, Operations /Field Engineers, QC/NDT Engineers, Client representatives, Certifying Authorities, Other Technical Agencies (for e.g. TWI, DNVGL).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop the Project Welding Execution Plan that define the full scope of Weld Procedures required, schedule of qualification, quantity of electrodes and materials required for qualification. Ensure that proper priorities relevant to project schedules are established and review progress
Responsible for seeking the review and approval of all Project Weld Procedures through direct and indirect communications with the Customer and Certifying Authority
Work with the Welding Engineering group and Welding department to execute R&D developments projects / goals identified
Maintain contacts with technical groups to maintain updates on developments in welding technology
Coordinate with test houses regarding testing of welding qualification coupons
Co-ordinate the technical selection of electrodes based on their physical and chemical and corrosion properties as well as considering their weldability and economics. Conduct regular review of Welding Consumables requirements v/s availability to ensure availability of the same
Review project schedules, material control reports and welding consumable estimates to determine changes to the welding execution plan
Guide Welding Engineers on day to day matters and mentor trainee welding engineers to have better understanding of Codes, Standards and Project requirements
Assist in resolving metallurgical, welding and quality related problems, through investigating cause of failures and prescribing fit for purpose
Assist in the support and development of automatic / mechanized welding systems
Manage welding school facility for the training and development of the workforce to improve the welding methodology and good workmanship practices
Review of vendor documents related to Welding Engineering
Bid stage: review and summarize customer specifications, identify bid qualifications and clarifications, project welder and procedure qualification requirements, welding consumables requirements. Identify any special needs that may be need for execution
Start getting involved / developing understanding for ECA based acceptance criteria (for specific applications only)
QUALIFICATIONS:
MS in Welding
BS Degree (4 year degree) or IWE or EWE in Welding Engg / Metallurgical Engineering / Mechanical Engg
5+ years directly related to Welding Engineering, Metallurgy / Materials in Fabrication / Construction Industry.
